Bellringing Course

Autumn 2008

Learn to ring the bells of St Mary’s, Swanage. At the
end of the course you will be able to ring the bells
for Christmas, and ring in the New Year.

Bellringing combines a unique blend of mental & physical
prowess, which stimulates the brain and helps keep you
fit…….it also makes a glorious sound!

There are a limited number of places available on this eight
week bellringing course on Saturday mornings, from mid-
October to mid-December, starting Saturday 11th October.
Cost is £1 per session.

After this initial training period you can then begin to ring
with the rest of the band. We practice on Wednesday
evenings, and ring every Sunday morning 9.45 to 10.25.

If not me, who? If not now, when?

Contact Matthew Pike, Tower Captain, on 01929 426878 for
details and to reserve your place on this course.

(Am I too old or too young? Young people may join St. Mary’s ringers from the age of 11 to 12. This is the lowest sensible age and ensures that the young people are tall and strong enough to manage the bell rope comfortably. There is no upper age limit but mature adults may have to consider health-related issues. Bellringing involves climbing flights of stairs, lengthy periods of standing - you cannot sit down to ring church bells - and gentle muscular exercise.)
